Sport Victoria is a very useful basketball related website for players on Vancouver Island but it is rendered nearly unusable due to its outdated design. At first glance this website comes across as chaotic and confusing. It's old school design fails to properly communicate its purpose and the important information which it provides. There is no apparent colour scheme, and the homepage is simply an array of tables and links.

The important information such as preseason matchups and rankings is bombarded with random information and ads which are only semi-relevant to the website. Not only are these links not very relevant, but some of them don’t work. The code also doesn’t allow the links to open in a new tab so the user is constantly exiting the website every time they click on a link. Finally there is no contact information for the writers of this website.

The website was created for high school basketball players, coaches, fans, and parents specifically in Victoria who want to see scores and schedules leading their team to the provincial championships at the end of the season. With that in mind I sifted out some of the irrelevant links such as Victoria Shamrocks, and the weather in Honolulu and Victoria, and started the vigorous process of re-mapping the relevant information into sections and submenus which would prove consistent and cohesive for the user as well as ensure clear hierarchy of information. To streamline the new website's navigation, I chose to implement 3 main pages. Using a menu bar, users can easily find their way around the site, with the main sections being:

“High School Hoops”, the main page which showcases the previous champions in BC high school basketball and has chronologically organized links to the current season’s stats, scores, teams, rankings, etc.…
“Basketball Tours”, a home page for the creator of the website's business; organizing basketball tours for local teams, with relevant information on the trips he is offering, and his contact information.
“Links & Resources”, a small hub for Victoria and British Columbian basketball, including links to
various kids’ camps, club teams, men’s leagues, and tournaments as well as links to follow postsecondary basketball in the region at the college, U-Sport, and NCAA level.

I believe that with my new design, a website which was once confusing and without a clearly identifiable purpose is now an enjoyable online destination for Victoria high school basketball players, coaches, parents, and fans. The new website looks to provide valuable information for basketball programming as well as drive traffic to the owner of the websites business in a streamlined manner.
